Out-takes are usually good fun.
On cable TV they often use 5 - 10 minute filler programs between scheduled
shows. Often these are blooper shows of some description. (And who can get
enough of those poncy show-jumpers falling into the water ?! ;->)
There was one such program which was a BBC collection (the host reminded
me of the male Holly from Red Dwarf) & it had an exuberant Vila holding a
huge gun and every time he tried to fire it, it failed to go off. Episode
name anyone ?
Ika also mentioned another one they played between Servie & Travis in her
office. IIRC it was Travis having a problem with a gadget (communicator ?)
and he cracks up, while Jackie remained stony-faced to the end. Ever the

Much as I like the third option, I'm inclined to go for the first one...
it's interesting though that all the resistances we see in B7 do seem to be
pretty much grassroots, independent movements, and yet also seem to be in
some sort of communication. Is there a sort of rebel Comintern operating
here?

Although the flag-waving morons seem to refer to that one a lot less-- my
theory is because the heroes and villains are much less clear-cut. One

But it doesn't make for as exciting television... there's a German
journalist of whom I'm very fond who was in the Communist Resistance in
WWII, and who repeatedly complains that German resistance members are always
being ignored and/or sidelined during any discussion of WWII, mainly cos
they don't fit the neat picture of Allies Good Germans Bad which even the
German press maintains.

The actor you're thinking of is Peter Miles, who plays Davros' sidekick
Nyder (pretty much a villain in his own right really) in "Genesis of the
Daleks," and is also Professor Whitaker in "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" as
well as Dr Lawrence in "Silurians." Actually he's been in just about *any*
telefantasy show you care to name, and is apparently still at it. The
actress is Harriett Philpin, playing Bettan, one of the Thals.

I've seen it recently, and it is, it is. Paul is
lovely to watch, but unfortunately he's the *only*

I went on about this at some length in a paper I wrote a couple of months ago -
how the "Blake's 7" symbol is actually the Federation's symbol with what is
essentially graffiti on it saying, um, "Blake's 7" - so the rebels don't have a
sign of their own. I think it's a bit of all the things you were talking about,
but essentially a recognition that fighting *against* something implicates you
in that something (all the Rumours of Death stuff - is Avon just as bad as
Shrinker? - and the Blake/Travis interaction, etc). You can never quite bring
about a whole new system - you're always to some extent "reforming" rather than
revolting (tee-hee). You can't fight a dirty opponent and stay clean yourself
(um, except maybe in 'Duel', but that didn't really work out in the end.)

The comic strip Prime Legacy by Nik Spender, in the Horizon newsletter, uses
that theme. I love it - it has a good plot, lots of action and is
beautifully drawn (all IMO of course). Avon looks gorgeous with an eye
patch :-)

which was having an old video sale, so for £2 I thought I might
as well get it.
I am glad I didn't pay much more for it, but having said that I did
actually enjoy it. Not just for Paul, but also because I thought it
was screamingly funny. Yes, viewed as a bit of OTT camp-comedy
it was well worth £2.

At least then the dear old Queen Mum doesn't have to watch out
for the bones. I'm sure I have heard of at least two occasions when
she has been rushed in to hospital with a fish bone in her throat.
They probably have a team of medics on stand-by every time
she says "I just fancy a bit of sole for tea..."

Defiantly worth 2 pounds! But then I'm a bit sad and have almost all the Dr
Who videos released by the Beeb. Don't have Timelash though.
Actually the Beeb have just release Time Flight too, which again isn't a
great story. I wonder how they choose which one's to release? I'm sure
I'll still get a copy when I next head to the UK.

I liked episode (4?) of this so much I bought the back issues
containing the previous episodes.
In one episode, showing Avon with patch unconscious, the picture looks
a *lot* like Blake. I wonder if the original storyline was going to
use Blake instead of Avon?
I *can't wait* for the next magazine, so I can read episode 5!!!!

They are running out of unreleased material. Of the complete stories
they hold, only 17 or so are unreleased, and one or two of them are
'coming soon'. I think that is also the reason for recent 'incomplete'
releases, and re-release of prevoiusly sold material.
They're also apparently planning to release more DVDs (next is
'Robots of Death').
Anyway, back to Blakes 7...
I've been reading lots of fan fiction recently, and I was wondering
about my legal position.
I run a small Blakes 7 roleplaying group, with five players, all close
friends.
Would it be unethical or illegal of me to 'recycle' plot ideas from
any of these as adventures for the group?
The adventures are NOT published in any way, for profit or otherwise.
They are ONLY used to keep a small group of idiots (sorry - meant to
say 'people') happy for a few hours each week.
I realise I'm being euphemistic in using the word 'recycle', when I
should say 'plagiarise.'
Any ideas?

The obvious idea is to ask the author of the fanfic for permission. Those
who are more experienced than I in the world of fandom might offer more
advice but I think asking permission is simply a matter of courtesy.
I realize that might seem difficult but I think that many of the authors
participate in this list or in the Freedom City list, and/or that members of
those lists might know how to contact the author. All you'd have to do is
post a note that you're trying to reach a particular author and ask for help
in doing so.
The other obvious direction to reach an author is through the
editor/publisher of the zine, most of whom have email addresses as well.
