Aaah! Thank you! You have just tied up one of those annoying little
mental links that torture the mind for days. I have just accompanied my 4
year old to three birthday partys in one weekend. One little boy with the
loudest, squeakiest, most irritating voice I have ever heard was at all
three and I have been racking my brains to remember what it was he reminded
me of...

I suspect this has a lot to do with it. In fact, I wrote an essay on this
very theme in AltaZine (not one of those replicated on Judith's website,
though). Beautiful Suffering as a means of levelling off gender-based power
disparities is nothing new - there was stacks of it doing the rounds in the
late 18th Century (apparently), to the point where Mary Wollestonecraft was
driven to write a parody of the genre (also apparently).

But give me sweaty foul-mouthed kick-ass Action Bitches any day:)

Surely that all depends on how you define 'superior'. You could cite the
same three qualities (well, maybe not 'handsome') as evidence of him being a
total jerk you wouldn't want to touch with gloves on.

Simply not true. I wouldn't say he emotes any less than the rest of the
regulars. Indeed, if anyone on the Liberator's got a claim to be a
wooden-faced zombie, it's probably Cally. With Gan a close second. Perhaps
you mean that he doesn't do so in those areas of the emotional spectrum you
would prefer him to?

Well, I've certainly done it (in Kriegspielen [Star One] and Hunter [Star
Two]) and I think Russ Massey has too. There probably isn't enough
male-written fanfic to make regular themes identifiable, at least not as
obvious as the recurrent themes in fanfic written by women.

watching them in reverse order, or perhaps in alphabetical order, or...

This could actually be suggested with a brief overdub to the original
episode soundtrack (if the BBC decided to tamper with history and release
a "revised" edition of "Blake"): as the director's credit appears on the
screen, the volume of the music is lowered slightly and we hear Servalan's
voice exclaim: "THEY ARE WHAT!? DEAD!? OH FU - ". At which point the final
fanfare cuts her off and we are left with the logo and the sound of
the closing synth sweeps.

Hi Pat,

I think that most of the guns sounded alike. The guns all looked like the same design. So I
think that Avon shot first. Of course this could be found incorrect but there is not enough
information to say it is wrong or correct. It's fun though isn't it?

Also, I am planning on unsubscribing from this list in a little while due to mail issues, so
if anyone has a question for me I will be on the blakes-7@onelist.com list. To subscribe
goto: http://www.onelist.com/list/blakes-7 I hope to get it going.

popular children's magazine show "Blue Peter". Initially starting his career as
an actor Peter also played Doctor Who Companion Steven Taylor alongside William
Hartnell during 1965/66. Since leaving Blue Peter in 1978 Peter has remained in
the public eye as a presenter of shows such as "StopWatch" and "Kick Start". He
was most recently seen returning to Blue Peter to help uncover their box for the
year 2000, which he helped bury in 1971. We are delighted that Peter has agreed
to make a rare appearance at Cult TV.

IAN RICHARDSON

Is one of the UK's leading actor's best known for his role as scheming

They all suffered ignominious deaths, accomplishing nothing.
How would each of the B7 crew have preferred to die?

Blake: in battle of words with Avon
Avon: information overload makes his head explode
Vila: tumble in and drown in a big brewers vat of soma
Cally: ascend to a higher plane of consciousness
Jenna: smothered in a big bear hug by Blake
Travis: in a mutual strangulation death grip with Blake
Dayna: in a mutual strangulation death grip with Servalan
Tarrant: doing daredevil loop de loop stunts in Scorpio
Soolin: in a shootout with herself, aka Games
Servalan: dressed to kill

Kathryn made a dynamic rebel raid at the new list, a raid of which rebel
Cally would approve; and KA *didn't* get caught and tortured by Travis.

"Good job!" said Blake.
"She couldn't have done it without my research," Avon reminded.
"I don't want to go!" Vila wailed.
"Shut up, Vila!" they all chorused. "She has gone and come back
already."

Yes, I lurked a few days at the onelist list and yes, it seems highly
skewed to newbies, but it also has very much of a Gen X feel: posts are
mostly one liners or short graphs, commenting on long blocks of repeated
text and multi-lined sig files. It feels young. And yes, it's a pain to
scroll thru in digest mode.

I shall, hencewith, answer my own question about why Michael started a
new list: Gen X hasn't yet developed the patience to wade through Neil's
long, literary thesis-quality essays on intergalactic politics. (And
British labor laws.)

Patient Pat

I am a Big Fan of tragedy. However, I don't think tragedy is the same
thing as 'beautiful suffering' in this context at all. Tragedy has a
spitirual power which comes from the intensity of the tragic hero's
struggle against an inevitable bad end. Its profundity is fundamentally
religious. As far as an innocent like me can tell, the enjoyment of Avon's
suffering is rather less spiritual and rather more erotic.

I did up one of my B7 cartoons in a hand-colored print this weekend and it's
up for display on Annie's ongoing eBay auctions. Since I seldom did any of my
cartoons in color back in the 80's, this particular illo has never been seen
in this form before. She's also added a bunch of new stuff including B7
goodies, and will be adding a lot of B7 rarities through the week for
auction. Come and take a peek at:

...and remember that it's very easy and free to register to bid on eBay.
