I'm afraid you missed a crucial teaser scene. The human who climbed out of
the spaceship was seen as a Royal Engineer officer in London during the
period of attack by V-1 'doodlebugs'. He and his squad discover a crashed
spaceship amid the rubbled buildings, one of the survivors was shot
'attempting to escape' and the other was stretchered away.

It's certainly worth sticking with.

My main moan about Visions is that there aren't enough fan panels, so I've put
my money where my mouth is and offered to run several.

If anyone is going to Visions and wants to lend me a hand with any of the
panels, just drop me a line.

Thery've promised me they won't timeyable them against Gareth (please excuse
typos - I've fractured a bone in my right elbow and am trying ti type with one
left fi ger,)

As Garth will be drssing as Blake for most of Saturda, I figured some
discussions on GP tpics might be fun. I've settled on 'What happened to
Blake between Star One and Gauda Prime?' and 'How creative can we get in
devising ways for characters to survive Gauda Prime?'

I'm also working on writing, zine pubkishing and filking.

(my logic says that the brst way of finding other people with the dame interestd
is to get a session onto the timetsble)

Thank you to those who put spoiler warnings on their postings regarding
Babylon 5...

Could others try to do the same? I know it's a bit difficult to tell when
something is going to be a spoiler, but remember that Australia (and maybe
Britain?) are a long way behind the US - in Oz we're only part way through
series 4. The Voice of the Resistance has only just gone on-line in the
last episode, if that's any help.

Some folks like to know the plots in advance. Me? I spend half my time in
conversation and on the net trying strenuously to avoid spoilers.

By the way, I saw the connections between The Demolished Man and some psi
corp stuff, particularly the episode where the monk-killer is mind wiped.
There are a lot of influences at work in this show, which help to give it
its texture and depth. I believe that on the whole JMS acknowledges his
sources and influences in interviews, but whatever the truth, he
incorporates his influences and ideas very smoothly.

I'm looking forward to doing more B7-spotting, among other connections. :-)

I have a message from Ann Wortham:

There will be a VERY limited amount of any of Ashton Press B7 zines available
at MediaWest*Con and if there was anything in particular you really really
want, you might want to order it in advance... like RIGHT NOW. Because I have
to have the zines printed and shipped ahead of time from Washington State!
This includes both older issues already in print and the upcoming new Southern
Seven #11 and Southern Seven #12.

Linda Knights will be posting the prices for these zines as soon as they are
available, which will be VERY shortly. Again, her website is:
http://www.nas.com/~lknight/web-ads/main1.html

Many thanks.

Something I like doing (other than spotting references and usage of older
plots--not that I necessarily think this is RIPPING OFF, mind you), is to
see where cast changes have caused adaptations in JMS' arc. The most
notable is the ever-inquisitive Catherine Sakamoto being replaced by Anna
when Sinclair is dumped in favor of Sheridan. Another is Talia's departure
which meant that JMS had to have another super-strong telepath to replace
her (remember how Ironheart altered her psi-abilities in one of the first
few episodes?). Lyta Alexander came back to the fold and started having her
own abilities manipulated by the Vorlon in order to move her up to Talia's
level. Talia's departure was also a convenient way to make her Control,
which was originally going to be the Asian woman from the pilot (and I've
heard that would have then fallen to Ivanova, but it either changed or was
never a part of JMS' original plan for her). There are a few others, but
since this now has little to do with B7, I'll call a halt to my ramblings.

>I wish I'd had the nerve to ask JMS (the one and only time I saw him at a
>con) whether he called her Anna on purpose. But he'd probably have denied
>it

He would have said it was a coincidence. Although he acknowledges B7, he
seems to not remember it very well--at least that's what I get from the few
interviews I have read. This is not to say I am right, or wrong, or just
dreaming; I do not know. Just an opinion. Thank you and good day.

Thanks to all of you who responded to my request for links
between Babylon 5 and Blake's 7, they were very useful.
You'll see the finished result when the progress report comes
out in September.

I have to say though that thinking about links sure affects your
hearing when watching Babylon 5. I was watching the episode
The Quality of Mercy today when Laura Rosen told Dr Franklin
she had "Blake's Syndrome". "That means you only have two
or three years to live," said Franklin. I nearly choked on my
coffee. So I rewound the tape and found what she actually said
was she had "Lake's Syndrome".

cheers

Damn, I had a very vague notion that Thras got
hemlocked too, but now can't find a thing to back
it up. He died a year before Socrates. Maybe it's
just because Polemarchus was killed... Anyway,
Thras doesn't remind me of Neil at all... nor had
I any desire to enter this discussion, but the word
"bigotry" pushed some buttons.

(will go off and get weepy about awful death of
that nice Polemarchus instead)

I used to drink a sweet and rather pleasant cocktail called a Blue Hawaii
(or Hawaii Blue), which was particularly good if you were given a little
plastic mermaid to perch on the rim of the glass. But then Sweeney Todd's
had a fire and all the mermaids disappeared, and after that they gave me
little plastic animals which didn't seem to strike the same note.

Rambling ever further away from the point.

I thought of another possible refrence, or at least a similarity: the
floating cameras, and the numerous sly digs at television in general and
Trek in particular, reminiscent of Deathwatch.

Jenni, the scene with Garibaldi wrapped in plastic is in Season Four, I'm
afraid. And you don't see all that much, due to light reflecting off the
plastic. But the idea's the important thing... :)

Oooooh, yeah! I was already a closet Garibaldi-fancier, but that ep brought
me galloping out ;-)
Re spoilers: Narrelle's comments strike a real chord with me. One of my
acquaintances is a B5 freak, has to know _everything_ that's going to
happen. She's on a bunch of different lists, surfs all the web sites, reads
all the groups. Me, I'm completely different - I don't want to know a thing
about what's coming up. I just want to see the story unfold the way JMS
intended.
We in NZ have seen up to the end of S4, and we're currently badgering TVNZ
to buy S5, dammit. I don't know why they have to wait until all the eps
have been made. It's not as if US viewers have to :-(

That is if you're talking about southern Australia! In the Territory, to the
best of my knowledge, it has not been shown at all. We've just come back to
Darwin after three years in Alice Springs so perhaps it has been on in
Darwin but if it was on in Alice then it was too late at night for me to see
it. Anyway this list has got me intrigued now and I wouldn't mind seeing it
now but I guess with the state of television up here I've got Buckley's!!!!

Julia is going over to the USA and has offered to carry back US zine orders to
help peple save on the postage. If you're going to Red Rose, you can collect
them there.

If you have any requests, please let me know quickly and I'll sort it all out.
The exact price cannot be predicted, but it's likely to be one or two pounds
below the normal UK price.
