As it ties two recent threads rather neatly, I thought I'd share. ttfn, Nicola [begin quote] Thought the cat lovers might like this. "fraid I can't post the attribute, since it's been passed around several newslists. Enjoy. Hamlet's Cat's Soliloquy from HAMLET'S CAT by William Shakespeare's Cat To go outside, and there perchance to stay Or to remain within: that is the question: Whether 'tis better for a cat to suffer The cuffs and buffets of inclement weather That Nature rains on those who roam abroad, Or take a nap upon a scrap of carpet, And so by dozing melt the solid hours That clog the clock's bright gears with sullen time And stall the dinner bell. To sit, to stare Outdoors, and by a stare to seem to state A wish to venture forth without delay, Then when the portal's opened up, to stand As if transfixed by doubt. To prowl; to sleep; To choose not knowing when we may once more Our readmittance gain: aye, there's the hairball; For if a paw were shaped to turn a knob, Or work a lock or slip a window-catch, And going out and coming in were made As simple as the breaking of a bowl, What cat would bear the household's petty plagues, The cook's well-practiced kicks, the butler's broom, The infant's careless pokes, the tickled ears, The trampled tail, and all the daily shocks That fur is heir to, when, of his own free will, He might his exodus or entrance make With a mere mitten? Who would spaniels fear, Or strays trespassing from a neighbor's yard, But that the dread of our unheeded cries And scratches at a barricaded door No claw can open up, dispels our nerve And makes us rather bear our humans' faults Than run away to unguessed miseries? Thus caution doth make house cats of us all; And thus the bristling hair of resolution Is softened up with the pale brush of thought, And since our choices hinge on weighty things, We pause upon the threshold of decision. I'm new to the list and have been lurking on it for about a week. I loved the "Navigating the SC Sector." It was extraordinarily clever! It also made me feel that I'd better quit just lurking and send something in. Thanks, Nicola, for "Hamlet's Cat's Solioquy." It was wonderful and certainly fit my 2 cats. By the way, I think this cat/dog thing might have something to it. I'm a PD fan and, although I love my dog, am basically a cat person. I liked Judith's comments on Jenna in "Hostage." (Sorry. I haven't quite figured out how to do the quote thing that everyone else does.) I think that perhaps there had been something between Blake and Inga at one time, but whether this is true or not, Blake certainly picked up on Jenna's jealousy toward Inga and was amused by it. The fact that Jenna was jealous supports the idea that there was something between Blake and Jenna. I wonder if Blake went looking for her in the time between his leaving the Liberator and Gauda Prime. Any thoughts? This list is a lot of fun! Thanks to all. When the Altas retake Liberator they start off by picking off the crew in ones in lightning raids near the teleport bay, first Gan, then Vila and then Cally. So when the Altas arrive in force and storm the bridge they actually take the ship off the three original people to claim it - Blake, Jenna and Avon. As the ship is being brought down under Alta command it does seem sort of fitting that it is those three and only those three who apparently see it being taken back off them. Accident or deliberately neat? It _was_ written by Terry Nation so I tend towards the latter. Yes, also in Duel Blake deliberately wound Jenna up about Cinofar's (sp??) beauty and again was most amused by her jealousy. Though Blake and Jenna seem quite neutral with each other when they're up the tree, do they know they're being watched? One moment I really liked in Duel (watching it again yesterday on UK Gold) was when Avon, watching Blake with Travis at his mercy, shakes his head and smiles, knowing beforehand that Blake won't kill Travis. He thinks him a fool and admires him at the same time. It shows just how well he knows him. It also shows genuine feeling, he's not making cutting remarks to the rest of the crew, it's just between him and the view screen.
