The major problem I have discovered when dealing with Greek history is
that there is a large gap in what we know historically about what
happened after the actual Trojan War (not to be confused with Homers
version which came some 400+ years afterwards and distorted the facts
badly). Shortly (within 20 years) after the war Greece was invaded by
large tribes of Northerners that were from the Danubian region of
central Europe and were distantly related to the Greek people (they
actually spoke a dialect of the language) known as the Dorians. They
overwhelmed the existing civilization and drastically modified the
social, religious, political and economic standing of the culture,
absorbing parts and outcasting other parts of the local structure to
suit their needs. They also destroyed huge amounts of the standing
knowledge and information that could have been passed down thru the
centuries to us if it had not been so devastating a wave of
destruction. It is this fact that makes my research project into the
original Greek Religion a painstakingly difficult task. Many of the
historical books I've read thru haven't even considered the pre-Dorian
culture as important and start their history with the Fifth Century
BC., and much of which exists is badly changed or Homeric in source
more than fact (thus my delving into archaelogical facts more than
popular myths and fictions). It is the Pre-Dorian Greece that is most
like our concepts of Paganism that I want to better conceive and work
with, and it is this era that I need any and all help and input
with. Does anyone out there have a a copy of the original Greek
calendar they could post for me? After 25 books I've yet to uncover a
copy of one that I could use to design a festivals and holidays chart
from for ritual use (I am interested in applying what I am learning
with modern Wiccan concepts to produce a non-Celtic neo-pagan approach
in circle).

As my research and efforts go on I'll continue to post for those
who are interested my findings and information and I would definately
like to discuss such with everyone here that might want to. I can also
be reached via my own BBS at 508-663-6220, which unfortunatly is not
part of the net-systems due to software/hardware compatability
problems. If anyone known of anyone else working in this vein of study
or who actually has a working Greek-based circle/coven that might be
interested in sharing information then please pass on my contact info
to them or their to me (I can also be reached via snail-mail at PO Box
5451, Billerica MA 01821). Blessed Be, Joe Teller
